Spray-Applied Fireproofing

Spray-applied fireproofing helps protect structural steel and other approved building assemblies by delaying temperature rise during a fire. The material is applied directly to prepared substrates and builds a continuous insulating layer around beams, columns, decks and connection details.

Fireproofing systems for demanding projects

Sprayed fire-resistive materials are commonly available as cementitious or mineral-fiber formulations. The correct product and installed thickness are determined by the specified fire rating, approved assembly, steel member geometry, exposure conditions and project requirements.

Our application process

  1. Specification review: confirm the approved design, substrate condition, required thickness and compatibility requirements.
  2. Protection and preparation: mask adjacent work, remove contaminants and install any required primer, bonding agent or lath.
  3. Spray application: apply material evenly to the specified profile, including flanges, webs and connection areas.
  4. Quality control: check thickness, density, adhesion and surface condition as required by the project.
  5. Repairs and closeout: correct damaged or deficient areas and prepare the installation for final inspection.

Typical applications

  • Commercial and institutional buildings
  • Parking structures and transportation facilities
  • Warehouses, manufacturing plants and utility spaces
  • Structural steel beams, columns, joists and metal decks
  • New construction, renovations and localized repairs

Built around safety, coordination and quality

Successful fireproofing depends on sequencing with other trades, clean substrates and consistent application. QLP plans containment, access, overspray protection and inspection points before work begins to help keep the project safe and on schedule.
